#GRAMMYAWARDS: DAFT PUNK WITH PHARRELL, NILE ROGERS & STEVIE WONDER – “GET LUCKY”

Daft Punk had a major hit on their hands when they teamed up with Pharrell and Nile Rogers for the infectious summer hit “Get Lucky.” Winning four awards including Record of the Year for the single and Album of the Year for Random Access Memories, the DJs and the superproducer performed the hit at the 2014 Grammy Awards (1/26) in a stage setup the resembled a cool ass recording studio session. Joining in on the mix was the legendary Stevie Wonder, who sang a bit of his epic “Another Star” and “Le Freak” from Nile’s old group Chic.

Another GREAT performance! They really rocked the whole damn STAPLES Center arena with this set. Everyone from Beyoncé, Jay Z, Katy Perry and even Yoko Ono were rocking out hard and dancing like it was New Year’s Day again!

Pharrell had another reason to celebrate, as he took home the Grammy for Producer of the Year (Non-Classical), which recognized his work on tracks like Robin Thicke‘s “Blurred Lines,” Destiny’s Child‘s reunion song “Nuclear,” Jay Z‘s “BBC” as well as his own new hit “Happy.” He won the award as part of The Neptunes with Chad Hugo back ten years ago back in 2004.

MIXTAPE: JOJO – ‘CAN’T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME’

Can't Take That Away From Me

Back in 2004, a 13 year old singer from Boston hit the scene hard with her debut single “Leave (Get Out),” scoring a platinum debut album in the process. A couple of years later, her biggest hit to date, “Too Little, Too Late,” helped propel her sophomore disc The High Road to gold-status, but was also the beginning of label drama.

Now at 19 (turning 20 this December), JoJo is ready to make noise yet again with the pending release of her long-awaited third release All I Want Is Everything. After spending the last few years dealing with issues with her label Blackground, doing her own version of tracks by Sean Kingston and Drake, then hopping on Timbaland‘s Shock Value II LP, the singer has decided to release her very first mixtape in anticipation of the disc, due out early next year via a new deal with Interscope.

Can’t Take That Away From Me, released in conjunction with Rap-Up.com, is an 11-track collection of tracks recorded during the AIWIE sessions as well as some fresh material just for the mixtape, writing on ten of the songs in the process.

VIDEO: N*E*R*D F/ NELLY FURTADO – “HOT-N-FUN”

Back on April 13th, N*E*R*D performed a high energy set during Temple University’s Spring Fling ’10 and debuted their new single “Hot-n-Fun.” Little did the students & Philly crowd know, the performance shot at TU’s Liacouras Center would be coined as the track’s official video. Even the Broad St line train makes a cameo! Although Nelly Furtado is on the track, she doesn’t appear in the vid. “Hot-n-Fun” is the lead single from N*E*R*D’s new album Nothing, now pushed back from June 15th to a new date of July 6th!

Pharrell and company are always about college and performing at school events, so its was a no-brainer that they would eventually release a video like this. Also, I saw a friend jiggin’ on stage, but I won’t release her name so her mama won’t know how her daughter is away from home (LOL!).

NEW MUSIC: LUPE FIASCO F/ ALICIA KEYS – “LOVE LETTER TO THE BEAT” + DRAMA OVER SONG

Here’s some new Lupe Fiasco music for the people! Lupe teamed up with Alicia Keys for the synth heavy “Love Letter to the Beat,” a potential track that could end up on his forthcoming Lasers album. The track was produced by Chad Hugo, one half of The Neptunes.

Download “Love Letter to the Beat” Here

While it comes across like it could be Alicia featuring Lupe at moments, he got a nice winner with this one! There’s also word that this may be just a unreleased song from his last album, but he does say Lupe E.N.D. at the opening of the track, so it could be from his proposed final album before he decided to release Lasers this year.

UPDATE: SOOOOOOO, there is some drama surrounding this song in particular. Word has it, Alicia originally recorded the track in hopes of it landing on her 2007 album As I Am. Because it didn’t fit with the vibe of the CD, it was never included. HOWEVER, Chad gave the beat to Lupe in a Polow Da Don fashion (check the original remix to Gwen Stefani’s “Luxurious” and Fergie’s “Glamorous”). Not only did Lupe get the beat, but also Alicia’s vocals that were recorded. Therefore, Alicia’s engineer Ann Mincieli got fired up over the situation on her Twitter and basically leaked The Neptunes’ drum kit online (Download Here). WOW! This is so crazy. So you all know for sure that I’m gonna be on this story and give the latest details to y’all!
